What is Pilates?

images1Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates in Germany during WW1, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness.  One of the best things about the Pilates method is that it works for all bodies.

Traditional methods of strength training tend to produce short, bulky muscles – precisely the type of musculature most prone to injury. Pilates elongates the spine, increasing the elasticity of muscles and the flexibility of joints to decrease injury and feel great.

The apparatus provides finely tuned exercise resistance that allows you to work very precisely to develop good alignment, core strength and flexibility.  It makes for an effective, no-impact stretching and toning workout that is friendly to the joints.  Exercised are done from a variety of positions such as lying on back, kneeling, sitting and standing.  The cables, bars, straps and pulleys allow for total body toning while stabilizing with deep core muscles.

Private Pilates

Working one on one with a skilled instructor, the client receives thorough evaluation and a customizes program.  Individuals with challenging schedules, injury and special needs find private training greatly enjoyable.  Private training allows instructors the time to explain details to a client more so than what can be done in a group setting.  Treat yourself to an hour of exercise all to yourself.
